Secretary of State Robin Carnahan would like to welcome you to the Missouri Small Business Advocacy Center. This online center is managed by the Business Services Division of the Secretary of State’s office and is a new service designed to provide convenient and useful information to our customers. It is designed to help prospective business owners more easily navigate the process of forming a new business and to help current business owners streamline their ongoing communication and reporting requirements with state government. We hope you find this center useful, and our staff is always ready to answer your questions or connect you with the appropriate local or state resource.
- The United States Small Business Administration estimates that there are 450,000 active small businesses in Missouri.
- Ninety-seven percent of Missouri businesses with employees qualify as a “small firm” and generated income in excess of $13.2 billion in 2003, an eight percent increase from 2002.
- Over 200,000 Missourians are self-employed small business owners.
